About. My name is Nina. I have a background in Early Childhood Teaching and I am trained and qualified as a Counsellor. I have been a Foster parent for over 13 years, and discovered my interest in attachment theory and child development. According to my new-found passion, I attended a variety of training courses on attachment models, gained knowledge on how to work with trauma, and read a range of recommended books on thes topics.
A more recent Professional Development course covered "LIFE STORY WORK" and how greatly children in care can benefit from it. After further studies and conversations and encouragement from other Professionals, I decided to pursue "LIFE STORY WORK" as a new pathway of my current practice. |

Goals of LIFE STORY WORK
Most children in Care only have a very basic understanding of why they came into care. These children blame themselves and lack self-worth. Due to a lack of information made available to them, children make up their own stories to fill the gaps in their life story.
Life Story Work can help resolvethe issues of self-blame. It is a tool to help traumatized children and young persons to make sense of their fragmented histories and memories. Life Story Work will assist children to understand and recover from their troubled past. "Feelings and emotions are the universal language and are to be honoured. They are the authentic expression of who you are at your deepest place." (Dorothy Wright) |
